View of the Sidewalk

People pass by window
They walk without questioning who
Looks out and watches their movement
In passing I notice a few

Often they're riding they're bicycles
Sometimes a runner goes by
Last was a woman and her little dog
I can't help but wish I could pry

No time to tell what they're thinking
If they have woes of their own
Not much gets said through their footsteps
Like if they're happy at home

One of these days curiosity
Might make me wander outside
Ask someone where they are going
See what response they decide

What is this crazy man up to?
Why would he invade my space?
Is he a thief or eccentric?
"Dude, get out of my face!"

I think he's probably lonely
No sign he wants to be cruel
"Oh I'm just visiting friends here
We know each other from school"

This guy is clearly a wacko
But he's got balls galore
Maybe he needs a companion
"Hey... you looking to score?"

There must be something in common
More than the city we share
Concrete connections unnoticed
Not until voices meet air

I'm just a puzzled observer
Watching the world with a view
Cities and sidewalks surround me
But I'm stuck inside with the flu
